Brookhaven Breezes into District Championship

FARMERS BRANCH, Texas – Dallas College Brookhaven advanced to the National Junior College Athletic Association Division III South District championship following a 4-0 win over Dallas College North Lake in Monday's semifinals.

The No. 2-ranked Bears (13-1-2) will meet Dallas College Richland (8-2-1) in Wednesday's 7 p.m. championship. The game will be broadcast on TSBN.

Brookhaven will be playing for its seventh consecutive district title.

The Bears scored three first half goals, putting in two off corner kicks to take a commanding lead. Alyssa Young had the game's first goal in the third minute. Ariana Chavira extended the lead to 2-0 in the 10th minute.

Natalia Banda, who assisted on the first goal, added another setup off a set piece as Addison Hanner headed home her corner kick to make it 3-0 before halftime.

The Bears outshot North Lake 13-1 in the first half.

Justine Garnica added a goal in the 70th minute on an assist from Kaitlyn Campos.

North Lake (2-9-5) had one shot on goal off the foot of Aubrey Martinez, which Bears goalkeeper Miranda Estrada scooped up.

Brookhaven outshot North Lake 28-3.

Elise Buendia stopped six shots in 55 minutes between the posts for the Blazers. Daniela Fonseca made three saves in the final 35 minutes.

Brookhaven has beaten Richland in the last three district championships.
