HERKIMER, N.Y. – Alyssa Young banged in her own rebound off a header as Dallas College Brookhaven women's soccer team beat Genesee Community College 1-0 in overtime Friday in the National Junior College Athletic Association Division III semifinals.
The win sends the Bears (16-1-2) on to Sunday's 3 p.m. national championship game against Delta College (16-0-1).
Young scored in the 98th minute following a corner kick from Natalia Banda. Young headed the corner, and was there for the rebound after the header was stopped. It was her seventh goal of the season.
Brookhaven outshot Genesee 29-4. The Bears had 12 shots on goal. They outshot Genesee 4-0 in overtime.
Bears goalkeeper Miranda Estrada stopped all four shots she faced for her second shutout at the national tournament and 10th overall.
Estrada stopped two shots within a four-second span in the 88th minute to keep the game scoreless.
Genesee starting keeper Natalie Prinzi stopped all eight shots she faced in the 86-plus minutes she played before she was forced to leave the game.
Brookhaven will be playing for its sixth national title.
