Garza, VanPelt Named DAC Players of Week

IRVING, Texas – Dallas College Brookhaven's Mariah Garza and Harlee VanPelt were named the Dallas Athletic Conference Women's Soccer Players of the Week.

Garza won the league's Offensive Player of the Week. VanPelt was named the Goalkeeper of the Week.

A freshman forward from Dallas, Garza had a hat trick in No. 2 Brookhaven's 8-0 win over Dallas College Eastfield. Garza scored all three goals in the first half after coming in off the bench. She gave the Bears a spark with the gamewinning goal in the 20th minute. Garza scored her other two goals within a five-minute span to extend the lead to 4-0 by halftime. Garza has four goals and nine points this year.

A freshman goalie from Abilene, Texas, VanPelt made one save to preserve the shutout over the Harvester Bees. She played 51 minutes between the posts to combine on the clean sheet. In three appearances this season, VanPelt has not allowed a goal.

Brookhaven (6-1-2, 4-0-0 DAC) will finish the first round of conference play 6 p.m. Tuesday at Dallas College Mountain View (3-2-0, 2-2-0).
