Bears Knock Off 2nd Straight Ranked Team
IRVING, Texas – Dallas College Brookhaven's baseball team beat fifth-ranked Dallas College Brookhaven 8-3 Tuesday in the first game of a Dallas Athletic Conference series.
It was the Bears' second straight win over a Top 5 opponent after beating then-No. 2 Dallas College Eastfield in last week's series finale.
Brookhaven's win pulled the Bears (16-20, 9-7 DAC) within a tie of North Lake (19-18, 9-7) for third place in the conference, with idle Dallas College Richland (17-18-1, 9-6) beginning its series at Dallas College Mountain View 12 p.m. Wednesday. The Bears and Blazers have split the four games thus far this year.
The Bears pounded 13 hits Tuesday, with Bradley Boedeker, Brett Petillo and Jorge Sanchez each collecting multiple hits. Petillo was 3 for 3 with a double, an RBI, two walks and a stolen base. Boedeker was 2 for 4 with a triple and a stolen base. Sanchez went 2 for 4 with a double and two stolen bases.
Abraham Fortis drove in two runs, going 1 for 4 with a stolen base. Brady Breedlove, Nash Nichols and Javier Godines each had a hit and an RBI.
The Bears, who scored four runs in the top of the eighth to break open a one-run game, had six stolen bases, with Fortis and Godines collecting one apiece. North Lake's Cyler Moore belted his eighth home run of the year in the Blazers' three-run third.
Tracy Brees (3-2) got the win in relief. He pitched two shutout innings, allowing a hit and two walks. Grady Silva earned the save, pitching the final four innings of shutout ball, allowing three hits, and striking out three.
Game 2 of the series shifts to Farmers Branch, Texas, with the Bears set to host at noon Wednesday. Game 3 is scheduled to air on the DAC Sports Network 2 p.m. Thursday at North Lake.
