Fortis Named DAC Player of Week
IRVING, Texas – Dallas College Brookhaven's Abraham Fortis was named the Dallas Athletic Conference Player of the Week.
A freshman shortstop from Caracas, Venezuela, Fortis belted four home runs and two doubles, while driving in seven runs, scoring six times, drawing three walks and stealing two bases in a week he went 9 for 16 for a .562 batting average. He went 4 for 5 with two home runs, a double, three RBI and a stolen base in a 4-3 win over Dallas College Cedar Valley. Fortis was 2 for 4 with a homer and three RBI in an 8-6 loss to the Suns. He was 2 for 3 with a solo shot in a 5-3 loss to Cedar Valley. He hit safely in all four games during the week as the No. 14-ranked Bears went 1-3.
Fortis is hitting .345 with five home runs, five doubles, 29 RBI and eight stolen bases this season.
Brookhaven (29-24, 17-10 DAC) will meet No. 3 Dallas College Eastfield (43-9, 22-5) in the final three-game series of the season. Eastfield is scheduled to host Wednesday's game, while the Bears are the home team for Friday and Saturday's games. Friday is designated as Take Me Out to the Ball Game community day, with food available for cash purchase only.
