Dallas College Brookhaven Baseball Team Inspires Young Learners Through Community Engagement

FARMERS BRANCH, Texas – In a historic first, Dallas College Brookhaven's Baseball team took the field in a different way, by bringing the game of baseball to the students of the Head Start Program. During their play period, the team taught the children the fundamentals of the sport, including how to play catch, field groundballs and run the bases.

This inspiring inititative reflects the Bears' commitment to community engament and youth empowerment. By connecting with the next generation, Brookhaven student-athletes are helping build a brighter future, one smile and one game at a time.

"Everyone loved it: the children, the teachers and the parents. Hopefully, we can collaborate again in the future," said Abner Nieto-Luna, Site Manager of the Brookhaven Head Start program. "The team is also more than welcome to visit the children or read them books anytime."

Coach Shaquille Thomas echoed the sentiment.

"We had an amazing time as well," he said. "It really helped put things into perspective in bringing our young men down to earth. Seeing the smiles and joy they brought to others was incredible."

Brookhaven looks forward to continuing this meaningful partnership and creating more moments that uplift and inspire the community.
